ABUJA, Nigeria | October 15, 2026 — eHealth Africa has signed a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Health and Population of the Arab Republic of Egypt to advance digital health transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and public health innovation across Africa. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in health information systems, AI-based diagnostics, disease surveillance, public health analytics, teleradiology, and stroke care, alongside capacity building and regional health initiatives.

The protocol was signed on October 10, 2026, in Berlin, Germany, by Adam Thompson, EHA Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-Founder of eHealth Africa, and Prof. Mohamed Fawzi, Advisor to Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population for Radiology Affairs. The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between both institutions to advance digital health innovation, strengthen healthcare systems, and promote regional collaboration.

Building on eHealth Africa’s experience in developing and implementing digital health and public health interventions across Africa, the cooperation creates opportunities for both institutions to exchange expertise, strengthen health information systems, and explore innovative approaches to healthcare delivery. It also reflects a shared commitment to leveraging African expertise, technology, and regional collaboration to advance more integrated and sustainable health systems.

Speaking on the significance of the agreement, Adam Thompson emphasized the importance of leveraging African expertise and innovation to address the continent’s healthcare challenges. According to Adam, “This collaboration reflects our belief that Africa has the expertise, infrastructure and experience needed to develop solutions that respond to its unique healthcare challenges.”

He added, “Bringing together African institutions, technology and implementation experience can strengthen health systems, expand access to quality healthcare and build sustainable solutions that deliver lasting impact for communities across the continent.”

eHealth Africa’s Executive Director, Atef Fawaz, who was part of the delegation, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing regional collaboration and strengthening health systems.

“This collaboration goes a long way towards connecting African expertise with regional and international opportunities to advance sustainable health systems,” Fawaz said.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, said the cooperation aligns with the Ministry’s efforts to leverage modern technologies and digital solutions to strengthen healthcare systems, expand international partnerships, and facilitate knowledge exchange between Egypt and other African countries.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar further explained that the cooperation includes supporting the expansion of teleradiology services across Africa, collaborating on stroke care programs, participating in regional health initiatives led by Egypt, and developing joint programs and projects that could be implemented through international financing mechanisms and donor organizations.

Under the cooperation protocol, eHealth Africa and Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population intend to establish a Joint Working Group to coordinate collaborative activities and explore initiatives aligned with their shared priorities. Specific projects and programs will be developed through mutually agreed implementation arrangements, with the broader objective of advancing digital health innovation, strengthening healthcare delivery, and promoting regional health cooperation across Africa.
