Abuja, Nigeria | July 1, 2026 — eHealth Africa showcased practical digital innovations designed to strengthen Africa’s health systems at the 6th Africa Digital Health Summit (ADHS), demonstrating how technology can build climate-resilient healthcare systems and improve the management of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

Held in Abuja from 25–26 June 2026 under the theme, From Pilot to Scale: Growing Africa’s Digital Health Innovation Ecosystem, the summit convened government leaders, development partners, innovators, and technology experts to explore how Africa can move proven digital health innovations beyond pilot projects into sustainable, nationally integrated health systems.

During the summit, eHealth Africa demonstrated two practical digital solutions that illustrate this vision in action—one focused on helping primary healthcare facilities respond to climate-related health risks and another designed to strengthen frontline decision-making in the management of Neglected Tropical Diseases.

During its featured technical session, “Building Climate-Health Digital Ecosystems: A Case Study of CHAT,” eHealth Africa demonstrated how the Climate Health Vulnerability Assessment Tool (CHAT) enables primary healthcare facilities to assess climate risks, identify vulnerabilities, and strengthen preparedness for climate-related health threats. The session was led by eHealth Africa’s Director of Partnerships and Programs, Ota Akhigbe, and moderated by the Deputy Director of Partnerships and Programs, Dr. David Akpan. Project Managers Edi Jeremiah and Toju Ogele also shared practical insights on leveraging digital technologies to strengthen climate adaptation and preparedness across health systems.

Beyond climate resilience, eHealth Africa also demonstrated how digital innovation can accelerate the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). During the technical session, “Neglected Tropical Diseases Decision Tree Application: Technical Demonstration and User Validation,” the organization showcased the NTD Decision Tree Application, demonstrating how the solution supports frontline health workers through improved clinical decision-making, standardized disease management, and enhanced service delivery.

The session was led by Fatimah Howeidy, Program Manager at eHealth Africa. Technical insights were shared by Gambo Yakubu, Dr. Ijeoma Leo-Nnadi, Mrs. Dorcas Mernyi, Dr. Peters Adebayo, Abubakar Zali Garewa, and Afolayan Oluwole Gabriel, who demonstrated the application’s capabilities and discussed its role in strengthening disease management and healthcare delivery.

Together, the CHAT platform and the NTD Decision Tree Application demonstrate eHealth Africa’s broader approach to designing practical digital solutions that address pressing public health challenges while strengthening government-owned health systems.

Reflecting on the discussions at ADHS, eHealth Africa’s Director of Partnerships and Programs, Ota Akhigbe, emphasized that lasting health impact depends on sustained collaboration across governments, funders, implementing partners, innovators, and the private sector.

According to Ota, “Our focus must move beyond implementing projects to strengthening systems. Success should be measured not only by what we deliver today, but by whether governments and health workers can sustain these solutions long after programmes and funding have ended.”

She emphasized that sustainability begins when innovation is embedded into government systems, budgets, and everyday healthcare delivery.

“Governments, funders, innovators, development partners, and the private sector all have a role to play, and we share a collective responsibility to build stronger, more resilient health systems,” she added.

Similarly, Deputy Director of Partnerships and Programs, Dr. David Akpan, noted that the conversations on partnership, investment, inclusion, and interoperability will continue through eHealth Africa’s upcoming Insights Learning Forum (ILF).

According to him, “Platforms like the Africa Digital Health Summit, the Insights Learning Forum, and the Africa Health Tech Summit create a continuum for collaboration, shared learning, and collective action to strengthen health systems across Africa.”

Building on the conversations at ADHS, the upcoming Insights Learning Forum will bring together governments, development partners, innovators, funders, academia, and communities to translate dialogue into practical commitments that strengthen health systems across Africa.

Through its participation at ADHS 2026, eHealth Africa reaffirmed its commitment to developing evidence-based digital innovations that governments can integrate into routine healthcare delivery—strengthening climate resilience, improving disease surveillance, supporting frontline health workers, and advancing equitable access to quality healthcare across Africa.
