At the Africa HealthTech Summit 2026 in Kigali, eHealth Africa convened the session “Beyond the Grant: What Makes an Intelligent Health System Survive?” to examine what it takes for promising health interventions to move beyond pilots and externally funded projects into solutions that governments, health institutions, and communities can sustain.

The discussion brought together perspectives from government, implementation, innovation, health service delivery, and health technology. Across those perspectives, a clear principle emerged: sustainability is not an exit strategy. It is a design requirement.
